Sikkim has more than two hundred monasteries, temples, churches, mosques and gurudwaras and the State’s unique Ecclesiastical Department caters to the functioning of these religious institutions. Sikkim is also place where all the monasteries of all the Four Schools of Buddhism – Nyingma, Kagyu, Gelug and Sakya – and also that of Bon exist. A separate seat ‘Sangha’ in the State Legislative Assembly to look into ecclesiastical affairs is also an unique feature.
